On a visit to Butchart Gardens near Victoria on Vancouver Island, BC I spotted this stunning double oriental lily, sometime called a Magic Star and other times called a Samantha Rose Lily. Regardless, it's unusual and electrifying in its high contrast bursting petals. I gave the painting a dark starry background for dramatic effect.

This painting is pure transparent watercolor on a full sheet of 300# Arches Cold Press paper. The image goes right through to the ragged deckle edges of the paper. When I frame these paintings I float the paper on an archival backing without a mat to show the edges of the paper. This is not yet framed. The art is professionally photographed which will make reproductions impossible to discern from the original painting other than the deckle edge of the painting which is part of the original art.<...

Watercolor is my medium. I zoom in and compose from my photos to fill a picture plane with a compelling design that takes the viewer into an abstract and sensual world. I look for beautiful transitions of color or textures that could be expressed luminously with my many glazes of watercolor, or that might provide an opportunity for me to try new painting techniques. I paint the inner landscape of flowers calling these works Floralscapes. The shapes, designs and patterns inside flowers and plants are the subject that awakened my love of painting, giving me a chance to create images of stunning beauty while merging realism with an abstract sense of design.
